Money Smart Week Fox Cities is offering two free events for the public in April.

Tuesday, April 25, 4:30-6:30 p.m.: Money Smart Week Fox Cities Celebration — a three-part event held at the Jones Dairy Farm Culinary Theatre and Pepsi Atrium at Fox Valley Technical College, Appleton

4:30 p.m.: Arrive early for chef Shelly Patten’s cooking demonstration and tasting. Enjoy appetizers, pick up food preparation tips and learn how to get multiple meals from your rotisserie chicken.

5:15 p.m.: Four local families who are competing in the Money Smart Fox Cities Financial Makeover Challenge will share their inspiring journeys from financial challenges toward financial freedom. The participants have been meeting with financial coaches from FISC, a program of Goodwill, to increase their savings, reduce debt and decrease expenses over a four-month period. The winner of the challenge will be announced at this time. The winner will receive $3,000, the second-place participant will receive $1,500, and the two runners-up each will receive $625.

6 p.m.: Three Money Smart Week Fox Cities Scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors. One $1,000 scholarship and two $500 Edvest gift certificate awards will be announced. A reception to follow until 6:30 p.m.

Saturday, April 29, 10-11 a.m.: The Big Read for Kids — for children ages 3-8 and their siblings at The Building for Kids Children’s Museum, downtown Appleton

An interactive story time featuring the Mercer Mayer book “Just Saving My Money.” Each child will receive a free book (while supplies last) and free admittance to The Building for Kids. Seating is limited so plan to arrive early. All children must be accompanied by an adult. To learn more, visit
